Issue around Temple community and how we can help
My first week at Temple University has definitely been quite a culture shock compared to the more sheltered college in center city I attended last year. I've seen an incredible amount of poverty especially when I've walked around off campus to go to friends' houses. One day in particular, I was walking down Gratz Street and saw literally dozens of young children sitting in the street, not having anything to do. I want to do something for these children. I want to provide a unique experience and a safe environment for them to express themselves. Since I am a fine arts major, I think it would be cool to adopt a block per say and pull together some art supplies and rent out a space for the children of that particular block. As an art student, I have a enormous amount of extra supplies and scraps that could be used and many of the other art majors in this class probably do as well. I think we could pull together enough supplies to provide for a block of children around the Temple community. This would be a great way to educate children about art and to allow them to express themselves and use their imaginations.
